ArtGarden - making art with postscript

May 12, 2007 - Joel has started coding a java program that draws non-intersecting line segments. When I figure out how to use the file release sourceforge system I will make the file available for download. We need to:

• generalize the geometry to make it usable in another context
• Find an interface plan so someone else could use these tools without having to see the inner workings.
• There are many subtle differences between different solutions to geometric problems. How do we keep it simple enough so the artist can manipulate the commands without rewriting or understanding the code (e.g. to calculate the distance from a point to a line, do they need to know the math?). Also how is the toolset rich enough that the artist is not just rendering a file that we created (e.g. making components interact in a way that yields infinite combinations)

Weaving1 is an image of proposed output from AG. The original is written in straight postscript and scaled for a computer monitor. The real output would be written as higher level commands in some object oriented language (like java or python).
